How do you get to Rosebud?
Arriving at Airport:
It is possible to hire a car from either Tullamarine or Avalon Airport. Don’t forget to book ahead of time! We recommend Kangaroo Rentals. It is also possible to hire a car once you get to the Peninsula: Avis Car Hire in Rosebud is the closest place.
By Car:
VisitingRosebud is a breeze from Melbourne by car. The quickest way (approx 1.5 hours) is to take the Mornington Peninsula Freeway. You can also take a scenic route out of Melbourne along the bay on State Route 33 and Nepean Highway.
Public Transport:
It is possible to get to Sorrento from Melbourne via train and then bus. Take the train to Frankston and then the 788 bus which stops along Point Nepean Road in Rosebud, to view the map follow this link. There is also public transport around the peninsula.
Taxis and Ubers:
Its easy to catch a taxi to Rosebud from the city but they are less available for getting around the peninsula.
Things to do in and around Rosebud
Cable Ride on the Arthurs Seat Eagle: Take your mountain bikes up on the Eagle and ride them through the trees back down the hill, book a picnic package for the family, or just buy a ticket and enjoy the views over Port Phillip Bay.
Tree Surfing at Enchanted Adventure Garden
The Bay Beach provides safe swimming along the long stretch of sandy shoreline and Rosebud, pier stretching 300m into inviting water, is a popular spot for snorkelling. With access to parkland, picnic areas with public bbq and a foreshore playground bubbling with fun.
Rosebud Foreshore Playground: Got little ones with a whole lot of holiday energy to burn? Bring all that summer excitement to Rosebud Foreshore Playground, a multi-level children’s paradise on the sandy shores of one of the Peninsula’s most beautiful family beaches. Infused with nature and a whole lot of opportunities for fun, this play-haven is perfect for both small and big kids, with swings, slides, a flying fox, rope-climbing, tunnels and loads more for every little explorer.
Arthurs Seat State Park and Seawinds Gardens: Indigenous gardens, playspace, picnic area, and look out spots. We recommend the McKellar and Kings Falls Circuit, about 2.5 hours out and back. Park the car at the Seawinds Garden carpark and take the track through native bushland toward Waterfall Gully and Kings Falls (best during wetter seasons).
Bay Trail Walking Track: a 30km walking and cycling trail stretching along the edge of Port Phillip Bay from Safety Beach, through Rosebud, all the way to Portsea.
Historic tour at McCrae Homestead: built using local materials and primitive techniques. Book a tour for the entire family for $27 and explore the past with the McCrae family’s 19th century heirlooms and home.
Peninsula Garden Bushland Reserve: Peninsula Garden Bushland Reserve is a meandering natural habitat brimming with native flora and fauna, which can be easily accessed via Jetty Road. The Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation organises walks through the reserve where you’ll be sure to spot one of Australia’s most beloved cuddly tree-huggers and meet some fellow nature enthusiasts along the way.
