Things To Do in Sorrento, Victoria
Sorrento Back Beach
The Sorrento Ocean Beach is made super convenient with a large car park, picnic area with public toilets, and a café kiosk who also host functions.
We recommend visiting Diamond Bay – one of the best spots to swim in Australia’s Southern Ocean. The back beach can be a dangerous spot to swim, we recommend sticking to the shallows and always swimming between the flags. The beach is only patrolled during summer weekends and holidays so if you’re going at any other time please never swim alone and stick to the shallows. Please be mindful that rip tides can come very close to the shoreline so even shallow paddling can come with risk.
Spending a day at the beach without getting wet can be enjoyed by exploring Coppins Track, a 3km historic walk along the cliffs towards Diamond Bay, which starts at the kiosk and features an original 1800s limestone path. For shorter walks, there is the 1.2km loop to Sphinx Rock, and a 0.5lm circuit from the lifesaving club to a stunning coastal lookout.
Sorrento Bay Beach
The Bay beach at the bottom of the main street is always a crowd pleaser! Our favourite spot is on the far side of the jetty at The Baths Sorrento (excellent fine dining!). Or for something a little more Aussie, fire up one of the public BBQs up the road at Sorrento Park and have a bayside picnic of snags and tomato sauce, shaded by big trees and surrounded by sprawling grassy knolls.
You can find a dog off leash beach if you enter at the Sorrento foreshore campground and reserve and walk about 400 meters to the right along the beach.

Bay Cruises
Searoad Ferries Sorrento – A great and affordable way to see the bay is to catch a ferry that runs hourly between Sorrento and Queenscliff. The helm is often accompanied by the bay’s resident dolphins and onboard the Searoad Ferry is a restaurant where you can have high tea on the sea! You can walk all the way from Sorrento to Point Nepean National Park in Portsea if you follow the Bay Trail which starts at Sorrento Pier, winds through the botanic gardens of Sorrento Park with its fun community-built playground, passes through the beautiful gardens and historic mansions of Portsea, and ends at the entrance of Point Nepean National Park.
