The Beaches:
There are three main beaches which make up Somers Foreshore and Reserve: to the West where Merricks Creek meets the sea is a small beach with shallow water nestled between Coolart Wetlands in Somers nature reserve and Somers Yacht Club; on the other side of the Yacht Club is a longer stretch of beach against sand dunes with a few meandering tracks to walk along; around a gentle bend where the water gets pretty deep is the third stretch of sandy beach which continues on to become a dog off leash beach. At the Eastern end of Somers is the beginning of Western Park Beach which stretches all the way to Sandy Point along parklands.

Sitting on the eastern edge of Somers is Coolart Wetlands with peaceful Luxton Lagoon and Merricks Creek inviting over 125 bird species to make their home, including white ibis, hoary-headed grebe, Australasian shoveler and blue-billed duck. Within the wetlands is a two-storied wooden observation building called Minsmere Hide nearby the Lagoon – perfect for bird lovers to nestle in and watch these beautiful animals and take in the surrounds. Arriving at Airport:
It is possible to hire a car from either Tullamarine or Avalon Airport. Don’t forget to book ahead of time! We recommend Kangaroo Rentals. It is also possible to hire a car once you get to the Peninsula: Avis Car Hire in Rosebud is the closest place.
By Car:
Getting to Somers by car from Melbourne is a breeze. The quickest way (approx 1.5 hours) is to take the Mornington Peninsula Freeway.
Public Transport:

Although Somers is a small hamlet on Western Port Bay, the area is full of beautiful sites and close to many activities and attractions. Start your day with a casual class at Silver Leaf Yoga studio located on 10 acres of native gardens in Merricks and come midday enjoy a simple seaside picnic beside Somers Yacht Club where there are public tables nestled in the shade of mature trees and easy access to public toilets.
Right next to the neighbouring township of Balnarring is popular Pt. Leo Estate where you can stroll through the outdoor sculpture gallery enjoying art from international and Australian artists. Open daily from 11am to 5pm, Pt. Leo Estate Sculpture Park offers tickets for 30-minute or 60-minute walks through the landscaped gardens. The sculptures range in styles, representing culture and artistic expression from all walks of life.
